Designer Nicky Haslam Gave This $19M London Townhouse an Eccentric Makeover – Robb Report

What happens when renowned British interior designer Nicky Haslam signs on to renovate a 19th-century townhouse in south-west London? Well, the newly listed abode in Knightsbridge is best described as chic, eccentric, and full of charm.  

Located just outside of Hyde Park, one of the UK capital’s most affluent areas, the Georgian-style residence has been hoisted onto the market for £14.95 million (or just shy of $19 million). The seven-story house comprises five bedrooms and five bathrooms spread out over 5,500 square feet. The remodel, which Haslam undertook alongside London-based studios Paolo Moschino and Lambart and Browne, has turned the place into a modern oasis complete with a subterranean indoor swimming pool that transforms into a dance floor by night.

Despite some swanky new finishes, the original period bones of the townhouse are still present. Therefore, the goal of the revamp was to preserve and restore the pad to its former glory. Positioned behind a private gate, there’s a study that doubles as a dining room on the ground floor, in addition to a chef’s kitchen that’s decked out with top-of-the-line appliances, a breakfast bar, and floor-to-ceiling glass doors that lead to a landscaped garden.

On the first floor, you’ll find two sprawling balconies, a generously sized reception room, and a library. Upstairs, the primary suite occupies the entire second floor, complete with its own dressing room and en suite bath, while the rest of the bedrooms are housed on the third and fourth floors.

The real knockout features, though, are found below ground. For starters, the sprawling basement level has been kitted out with a fitness studio and a spa with a sauna and a hot tub. Elsewhere, you’ve got entertainment spaces like a plush cinema. Then there’s the pool. Using a similar technology as is used for swimming pools on yachts, the pool’s floor rises at the touch of the button to become flush with the floors, turning the mirrored room into a private nightclub. A row of disco balls hung from the ceiling adds to the effect.
